Frequently Asked Questions

What are YEP Academy Camps and Outdoor Journeys?

They are guided, multi-hour to multi-day outdoor experiences that combine time in nature, group-based travel or camp life, and intentional moments for reflection, connection, and personal growth. Depending on the specific offer, the focus may lean more toward immersion and rest, or more toward adventure and exploration.

What is the main intention of these experiences?

To help you reconnect with yourself, others and the natural world, step out of routine, and experience meaningful challenges and simplicity. The intention is not to “perform” but to arrive more present, grounded, and confident through real experiences outdoors.

What makes YEP Academy’s approach different?

We design the journey as an experience with purpose, not just a route or a campsite. You will find a balance of good guiding, thoughtful facilitation, and a supportive group culture. Nature is not only the backdrop, but an active partner: weather, landscape, natural elements, rhythm, and silence are part of the learning.
We create a safe space, where people can be honest, not beiing judged and grow - without pressure to “perform.” At the same time, we work with clear structures and ethics that support inclusion, respect, and wellbeing.

What does “safe space” mean in practice during the experience?

It means we actively create conditions where exchange is possible: clear group agreements, respectful and non-judgemental communication, consent and boundaries, inclusion, and confidentiality. You are invited to challenge yourself, but you stay responsible for your own limits. Our facilitators hold the process carefully, and feedback is structured to be constructive and supportive.

How much of the experience is active adventure and how much is calm reflection?

Both elements are present, but the mix depends on the specific product. In general, we pair “doing” (walking, trekking, paddling, camp tasks, challenges) with “being” (quiet time, sensory awareness, journaling, sitting, simple rituals). You can expect a healthy balance rather than constant intensity.

Who is this experience designed for, and how do I choose the right option for me?
These experiences fit people who want nature, movement, and a meaningful break from everyday life—whether you come for exploration, reset, confidence, connection, or simply a new perspective. To choose well, look at the program description for duration, environment, activity level, and the main theme, and match it with what you need right now. Am I ready for this journey? To support your preparation, we invite you to take a short moment for self-check. The program intensity for each area is indicated on a scale from 1 (low) to 5 (high)—use it as orientation for your personal readiness and learning needs.
  • Challenge & Adventure
  • Meaningful Personal Impact
  • Self-Assessment
  • Building Strong Relationships
  • Active Learning & Problem Solving
More guidance on how to interpret the scaling of these areas is available under here (link).
Do I need prior outdoor experience to join?

Often not. Many offers are designed for beginners or mixed experience levels. What matters most is a basic willingness to be in nature. If a program requires specific experience, it will be clearly stated in the description.

What if I don’t feel confident with outdoor settings yet?

You don’t need to be “fully confident” to join. Many participants come to build exactly that confidence. We introduce routines step by step, explain what matters for comfort and safety, and support you in finding your own pace. If you’re unsure, choose a more moderate option first and tell us in advance so we can guide you well.

I’m an introvert or prefer quiet time. Can I still participate fully?

Yes. Many people join specifically for calm and reconnection. There is space for silence, solo time, and quieter participation. You can engage in a way that feels authentic without needing to be “high-energy” or constantly social.

Do I have to share personal stories or speak in front of the group?

No. Sharing is always an invitation, not an obligation. You can participate through observation, journaling, simple check-ins, or practical contributions. If group reflection happens, you choose what and how much you share.

What if I feel overwhelmed, anxious, or need to step out for a while?

That’s okay, and it happens. We encourage you to communicate early with the facilitator team so we can support you. Depending on the context and safety needs, you may take a break, adjust your participation, or receive extra check-in support.

How do you handle different experience levels and comfort zones within one group?

We design with flexibility: options for pacing, clear instructions, buddy systems when helpful, and a culture of “challenge by choice.” Facilitators pay attention to the group’s energy and adapt activities to keep people included without pushing them beyond what’s safe or constructive.

What if I have never done a journey like this before?

That’s absolutely fine. Many participants join for the first time. We guide step by step, explain, and build confidence through practice in a supportive environment. You don’t need to be “experienced”—just open, curious, and willing to engage.

What if I join alone and don’t know anyone?

Many people join solo. We design the experience so it’s easy to connect naturally through shared activities, simple team routines, and optional group reflection. You won’t be left on your own, and at the same time you can choose how social you want to be.

How does food and drinking water work, and can dietary needs be accommodated?

Food is organised as part of the program (either prepared by the team, partners, or shared cooking), and we plan for sufficient water access and safe drinking practices. Dietary needs can often be accommodated if you inform us early. For very remote routes, options may be more limited, but we’ll communicate what’s realistic.

What should I bring, and will I receive a packing list and gear guidance?

Yes. After booking, you receive a packing list tailored to the program and season, plus guidance on clothing systems, footwear, rain protection, and essentials. We also advise what not to bring, so you stay light and practical.

Is there a preparation meeting before the program?

Yes. A mandatory online preparation meeting will take place about one week before the intensive journey starts. It’s a chance to meet your fellow participants and facilitators, align expectations, clarify logistics and safety, and go through the final preparation steps. The meeting link and details will be shared in your confirmation email after successful registration and payment.

Will I receive a certificate?

No, certificates will only be provided for our Intensive Journeys.

How do we manage risk and safety?

Your safety and wellbeing are a core priority in every YEP Academy outdoor experience. We work with clear procedures, trained staff, and location-specific planning to reduce risk and respond effectively if something happens.
Emergency contact and medical information is collected during registration
Consent forms are signed and submitted before the program
All facilitators hold valid first aid certification
Accident insurance is provided by YEP (coverage up to USD 5,000)
Location-specific risk assessment checklists are applied and briefed
Child protection guidelines are followed (when applicable)

How is the connectivity at the program location?

Connectivity may be limited depending on the location. During our outdoor experiences, mobile phones should be switched off and can only be used in specific break sessions. This helps everyone stay present, connect more deeply, and fully engage with the experience.

Can I arrive earlier or leave later?

We kindly invite you to stay for the full journey as agreed, including arrival and departure times, as this supports the group process and learning flow. If this is not possible for you, please clarify your situation with us in advance so we can explore options and confirm what is feasible within the venue and logistics. Please note that any travel changes or extra nights are usually at your own cost, and availability may be limited.

What happens after the registration is completed?

First, complete your registration by clicking the button and following the instructions, including the payment process. After your registration and payment has been successfully received, you will get a confirmation email with your invoice, packing list, and details for the mandatory online preparation meeting (held one week before the intensive journey starts).

How does registration work if I apply for a scholarship?

If scholarships are available, you will see an “Apply for Scholarship” button above. By choosing this option, you apply first instead of registering and paying directly. After you submit the scholarship application (including the required information and acceptance of the Terms & Conditions), we will review it and get back to you within the communicated timeline. If your scholarship is approved, you will receive a confirmation email with the next steps, your invoice (and co-payment details if applicable), as well as the packing list and preparation meeting information. Your place becomes final once you confirm your participation and—if required—complete the payment by the deadline. If the scholarship is not granted, you can still register as a self-funded participant if places are available, or withdraw your application.

Can organizations request a customized outdoor experience?

Yes. We offer customized outdoor experiences for organizations (NGOs, schools, companies, youth groups etc.) and adapt the content, duration, location, and intensity to your goals and context. Reach out to us with your objectives, group profile, and timeframe, and we will propose a tailored concept and offer.

What happens if I need to cancel at the last minute?

Please refer to our Terms & Conditions. If you need to cancel, inform us as early as possible by email (info@yep_academy.org) or phone (+855 10600743). Our cancellation policy is:
