On average, Bangkok produces 10,000 metric tons of waste daily, 50% of which is food waste. Annually, 7,000 million Baht (203 million USD) is spent on garbage disposal. Bangkok cannot separate food waste from general waste.
Bangkok Rooftop Farming is a green social enterprise situated on the rooftop of Center One Shopping Plaza, deep within the heart of Bangkok. They upcycle food waste from the mall's canteen into compost to grow vegetables, all on the same rooftop. The crops are then sold back to urban people, helping the circular economy and further reducing carbon emissions used to transport fresh produce from farms to stores. Their efforts enable them to eliminate at least 200 kilograms of food waste daily, contributing to a reduction of 22.5 tons of carbon credits annually.
